FCTC Pass Out

Six Air Cadets from 51 (Orton) Squadron are celebrating passing their First Class examinations. Cadets Whitehead, Carpenter, Nightingale, Taffe, Subden and Reed had to study a range of subjects including the History of the Royal Air Force, Airmanship, Radio Communications, Drill and discipline all under the watchful eye of Warrant Officer Gary Wilcox.

Each cadet had the added honour of being presented with their award, by the newly appointed Squadron Leader Rob Bradshaw, which during his career with the Air Cadets was the Commanding Officer of 51 (Orton) Squadron.......Read More

 

Orton and Peterborough Squadrons join forces to hit the target.

On Saturday cadets and staff from Peterborough’s two Air Cadet Squadrons joined forces to give a number of new cadets their first experiences of target shooting as a member of the Air Training Corps.

Cadets and staff from 51 (Orton) Squadron and 115 (Peterborough) Squadron met at 51’s headquarters at Nene Park Academy for a day’s shooting on the BSA Scorpion air rifle. Many of the 24 cadets were new and having never fired anything in their life before were rightly a little nervous. Following on from initial training and handling tests from weapons instructor and Officer Commanding 115 (Peterborough) Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Stephen Dalton, they were left in the capable hands of Flight Lieutenant Andy Mason, Officer Commanding 51(Orton) Squadron to put them through their paces on the range.........Read More

 

Cadets Rewarded for their hard work and Dedication

The success of two local Air Cadets in securing BTEC qualifications in Public Services has been recognised by the presentation of their Certificates.  Corporal Wells and Corporal Robinett achieved some of the highest grades possible being awarded Merit and Distinction*.

The internationally respected qualification delivered to Cadets via the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation (CVQO) mixes theory and practical elements with an emphasis on leadership, teamwork, communications, problem solving and fitness....... Read More

 

Promotion Well Deserved for two Air Cadets

Two young people, both members of 51 (Orton) Squadron Air Cadets, have received well deserved promotion to the rank of Corporal.

Conner Wells (15), and Andrew Goodman (15) have worked hard to be promoted to the rank of Corporal and will now take on additional responsibilities within squadron including leadership and learning how to instruct their peers in adventurous training skills.  Both Cadets have been with the ATC, and 51 (Orton) Squadron since they turned 13 and their dedication and skills has allowed them to progress as well as stand out....... Flying High.

Last Friday, cadets from 51 (Orton) squadron, Air Training Corps (ATC) were invited by 115 (Peterborough) squadron to attend Royal Air Force Wittering for a chance to experience the thrill of flying in a Lynx Helicopter, an Air Experience never had by a cadet at our squadron before.  All of the cadets agreed they were very fortunate to have had this opportunity and they would of course like to give their thanks to 115 (Peterborough) for thinking of them...... Guest Team Stands Out at Sandhurst!.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Natalie Clampin of 51 Orton Squadron and Cadet Warrant Officer Jess Bradshaw of 104 City of Cambridge joined forces to compete as a Guest Young Adult team at the National Inter Services First Aid Competition last weekend. This is the largest First Aid competition of its kind for young people to participate in and cadets from uniformed forces including the St John Cadets meet to show off their talents on an annual basis.....
